The Emergency Medicine Interest Group (EMIG) was founded in 2009 as the first and only student organization at the American University of Antigua with a direct focus on information covering clinical practice and post-graduate training, specifically addressing the needs of students with an interest in pursuing emergency medicine as a future medical specialty. The group consists of students with past experiences in the emergency services (EMTs, paramedics, RNs, etc.) as well as other students with an interest in the field of emergency medicine who wish to participate in information sharing and hands-on training in an effort to maintain and expand knowledge and understanding of current events, trends, and practices. We also work closely with AUA's Emergency Medicine Training Center (EMTC) by offering EMIG student support in the center's training activities.

Additionally, the EMIG strives to provide timely and focused information dealing with the field of emergency medicine and trends and topics concerning post-graduate training programs in the US and Canada. As such, AUA's EMIG is listed and recognized by the Emergency Medicine Residents' Association (EMRA) and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine / Resident and Student Association (AAEM/RSA) and we are one of a few international medical schools (and the first in the Caribbean) to participate in both the EMRA EMIG and AAEM/RSA EMIG networks.

Membership is open to all students and faculty of the University. No attendance quotas are implemented, thus participation in all events and meetings is strictly voluntary. By joining, members are placed on an informational mailing list, and are given priority at EMIG events. In addition to all these features, however, all EMIG members are strongly encouraged to apply for student membership with the Emergency Medicine Residents' Association and/or the American Academy of Emergency Medicine / Resident & Student Association (which currently features a FREE 1-year membership promotional offer), both packed with extensive benefits and invaluable access to EM publications and resources!

Thank you for stopping by to visit our site and learning more about our endeavors. We encourage you to become involved by applying for membership today!
